Social Media Tips for Tradespeople: What Actually Works
Most tradespeople know they should be on social media but do not know what to post. Here is what actually generates leads.
Post before and after photos
This is the single most effective thing you can do. Take a photo before you start and one when you are done. Side-by-side transformations get shared, liked, and commented on more than anything else. Make sure the lighting is decent and the space is tidy in the after shot.
Use Facebook, not everything
You do not need to be on every platform. For tradespeople in the North East, Facebook is where your customers are. Join local community groups (there are hundreds for Newcastle, Sunderland, Darlington, and surrounding areas) and be helpful when people ask for recommendations. Do not spam. Just be present and professional.
Show your face
People hire people, not logos. Post the occasional photo of yourself on site, your van, your team. Customers want to know who is coming into their home. A friendly face builds trust faster than any advert.
Share tips and knowledge
Post quick tips that show your expertise. A plumber might post about preventing frozen pipes in winter. An electrician might explain why a fuse keeps tripping. This positions you as the expert and keeps you visible without being salesy.
Ask for recommendations
When someone in a local Facebook group asks "Can anyone recommend a good plumber in Durham?" that is a free lead. Make sure your profile is set up properly so people can see your work, reviews, and contact details. Ask happy customers to recommend you when these posts come up.
Keep it consistent
You do not need to post every day. Two or three posts per week is plenty. The key is consistency. Set a reminder on your phone if you need to. A dead social media page is worse than not having one at all.
Link to your profile
Always include a link to your North East Trades profile or your Google Business page in your social media bio. Make it easy for people to see your reviews and get in touch.
