We take multiple steps to check that the tradespeople listed on our directory are legitimate, reliable professionals. Here is exactly what we do.
Our verification checks
Every tradesperson on North East Trades goes through these checks. The more they verify, the higher their trust level.
1. Google reviews and ratings
Every listing displays real Google ratings and review counts pulled directly from Google Business profiles. These are genuine reviews from real customers that cannot be edited or removed by the tradesperson.
2. Online presence check
We verify that each tradesperson has a legitimate online presence, including a Google Business profile, website, or social media. This confirms they are an established, operating business.
3. Identity verification
When a tradesperson claims their listing, we verify their identity using automated ID checking. They upload a photo ID and take a selfie, which our system matches automatically. This confirms the real person behind the business.
4. Accreditation display
We display accreditations as stated by the tradesperson, including Gas Safe registration, NICEIC, NAPIT, TrustMark, and Federation of Master Builders membership. We encourage customers to verify these directly with the issuing body.
5. Insurance declaration
Tradespeople can declare they hold public liability insurance when signing up or claiming their listing. Listings with confirmed insurance are clearly marked so you can see at a glance.
6. Contact details verified
We check that phone numbers and email addresses are valid and reachable. If a tradesperson cannot be contacted through the details they have provided, they are flagged for review.
Trust levels explained
Each tradesperson has a trust level based on how much verification they have completed. Higher levels mean more checks passed.

Our commitment to transparency
We believe in being upfront about what we check and what we cannot guarantee. Unlike some directories that charge tradespeople hundreds of pounds per month, North East Trades is free to list on. This means we can focus on what matters: giving you honest, transparent information to make your own informed decision.
Google ratings and reviews are real, unfiltered feedback from customers. We display them exactly as they appear on Google. We cannot alter, remove, or manipulate these ratings, which means you see a genuine picture of each tradesperson.
When tradespeople declare accreditations like Gas Safe or NICEIC, we display them on the listing. We always recommend you verify these directly with the issuing body before hiring, especially for regulated trades like gas and electrical work. Our advice: always get at least 2-3 quotes, ask for references, check accreditations directly, and never pay the full amount upfront. A trustworthy tradesperson will be happy to answer your questions.
